Happy Birthday, Barbie!

Happy Birthday, Barbie!
Originally uploaded by teenq
Even though Barbie still has her flawless skin, hot figure, and amazing wardrobe, she's turning 50! Mattel, her parent company, opened up a Barbie flagship store in Shanghai to celebrate, created Stila make up products (below), fun new clothing (available at Fred Segal), among other exciting ventures! The greatest gift of all, though? The Barbie Runway Show during February's New York Fashion Week! 50 designers, which included all of the big names in the industry such as Diane von Furstenberg, Tibi, and Marchesa, designed Barbie-inspired outfits that were paraded down the runway accompanied by hot-pink Christian Louboutin heels. The show was a jaw-dropping historical event, and the perfect way to celebrate the icon who has changed fashion and the role of women. The show can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwUhnQEC3hA, and you can read about it at this link: http://www.instyle.com/instyle/package/fashionweek/photos/0,,20259573_20259343_20580287,00.html.

As if that weren't enough, Vera Wang is going to be design a Barbie bridal gown for a lucky bride, which comes with a life-size Barbie doll that looks like the buyer! Oh, and those are only a start to the fun products and projects that are being designed in Barbie's honor. JEALOUS!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BARBIE!!!
I love everything about you :)

It's not even spring yet, or even summer, but designers have already launched their Pre-Fall and Fall 09 lines! I love a lot of the looks, but I'm going to blog about those at a later date... However, I had to blog about this Michael Kors Pre-Fall jacket. I love leopard, I love coats, and when you put the two together... it's sort of like looking at heaven! This would look great with a casual or dressy ensemble, and can be worn to a multitude of events. It's a purchase you won't regret!!

I don't know who he is or where he lives, but when I find out... I'm kidding!... Sort of. I really just LOVE this classic and sophisticated suit. It's so Chuck Bass, and so nice to see a man wearing this instead of a sweatshirt or baggy jeans. If only every boy could dress like Chuck or this Tommy Hilfiger model... I'd go crazy!

I love sweaters. They fit a variety of moods, places, and people, and can always spice up an outfit or bring comfort. For spring, Gap created a whole new line of fun sweaters in a mixture of colors, prints, and styles! I can't wait to wear my new turquoise one!! They are available online at gap.com and in stores!

Beiges are all the rage for spring, but there's no reason to keep it simple when you can jazz it up with a fierce belt or shoes! Yves Saint Laurent added those tough touches to an otherwise simple and soft dress, and it worked! I can definitely see this look being worn not only by models or celebrities, but by everyday people!

When I think of spring, I think of flowers and green grass. Although the tones of this spring are subtle, flowers still have their place! This Dolce & Gabbana dress is exquisitely decorated with roses, and make it a pleasure to the eyes! Beautifully done!

A classic look is a high-waisted skirt with a blouse, but it's always fun to add some unique elements to the style. Oscar de la Renta hit it spot on! The belt cinches the waist and adds shape to the outfit, while the necklaces add a fresh feel. The skirt is an appropriate length for any function, but shows a bit of skin underneath the ruffles that shows that even a good girl can have a naughty side. Like usual, Oscar de la Renta is genius!

I wish I had seen this dress on the Academy Award Red Carpet! I love the tight bodice and sheer, flowing bottom, and how the simple black is adorned with eye-catching embellishment. The necklace fits the shape of the dress perfectly, and adds a bit of red to a darker outfit. Oscar de la Renta did it again!!

How great is this necklace?? Most people think of statement pieces as being big baubles or shiny jewels, but this is an understated statement piece... if you catch my drift. Nature and environmentally-conscience clothes and ideas are now mainstream, and this acorn necklace is a fashionable way to be keyed in to our global problems. This necklace is so fun and eye-catching! A giant acorn necklace... who would have thought?!

The Gianfranco Ferré Spring 09 collection ROCKED! All of the outfits were fierce, defined, and fabulous! This ensemble was one of my favorites! A classic look is a ruffled blouse in a high-waisted skirt, but this was done in an amazing futuristic way! The origami accents make the outfit pop, and the colors are simple and sophisticated. Love it!

Balenciaga has always created unique ensembles. Some may say funky, some may say freaky. For this collection, I say freaky. The sneakers, white tights, and structured dress all create an outfit that looks... eery. Oh, well! I still love my Balenciaga bag! I'm hoping their next collection will win back my affection!

When I saw this outfit, my initial reaction was, "Cool." What I meant by that, was with the style and pattern of this dress, the bracelet, the loose hair, and the edgy shoes all symbolize "cool." This outfit is indie-chic, like most Missoni pieces are, and really caught my eye! Someday I hope to wear this outfit and ooze the cool factor... sad, but true!

Last Minute Gift Ideas

Still don't know what to buy your significant other (or self) for Valentine's Day? Here are some ideas to make the search easier!

1) Customized fortune cookies! Not only can you personalize the message inside, but you can personalize the color, size, dippings, sprinkles, and other fun coverings! Check out: http://www.fortunecookiestore.com/mall/c100/s2935/cookie_custom.asp.

2) Make a movie date pack! Include DVDs that you both enjoy, along with popcorn and candy so you can spend the night in but accompanied with a fabulous movie and food!

3) Make a romantic dinner for the two of you to enjoy, or for yourself while you snuggle by the fire! One of my favorite meals to make with friends is artichoke spinach dip with homemade pita chips, shrimp alfredo pasta, and molten lava cakes for dessert. Not only is it fun to make, delicious, and filling, but your effort of creating a wonderful meal will be greatly appreciated! Recipes can be found online.

4) So I saw this random present... I thought it was sort of funny... Maybe your partner will enjoy it?? http://www.justpaperroses.com/I-Love-You-From-Top-to-Bottom?sc=2&category=18&partner=findgift

5) Make a calendar of you two together! You can also add special dates! I made one for my friend's birthdays and she LOVES it! It's a fantastic and personal present! http://www.shutterfly.com/shop/photo_calendars/product_c10014

6) Frame a photo of you together! Simple yet timeless.

7) If you feel like spending a lot... Tiffany's always does the trick! That Tiffany blue box is... amazing. http://www.tiffany.com/Seasonal/Modules/ValentinesDay2009/Default.aspx?hppromo=VDHP8#p+1-n+6-cg+-c+-s+-r+-t+-ri+-ni+1-x+-pu+-f+/0

8) Yum. That's all I have to say. http://www.lindt.com/2865/2866.asp

9) Don't want to buy regular flowers? Edible Arrangements are a great replacement! http://www.ediblearrangements.com/

10) Want to do it the classy way, though? Flowers will always be appreciated.

Much Love!
