Best Dressed at the CFDA Awards
Every year, the Council of Fashion Designers of America holds the CFDA Fashion Awards to celebrate those with outstanding achievement and excellence in the fields of womenswear, menswear, accessories, journalism, creative vision and lifetime achievement. This year, the awards ceremony was held at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. They were hosted by comedian Tracey Ullman. Kate and Laura Mulleavy for Rodarte won for Womenswear Designer of the Year; Scott Sternberg for Band of Outsiders and Italo Zucchelli for Calvin Klein Collection won for Menswear Designer of the Year; Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for Proenza Schhouler won for Accessory Designer of the Year. Blake Lively presented the Swarovski Awards while wearing a gorgeous Michael Kors hot pink dress. The Swarovski Award for Womenswear was given to Alexander Wang, for Menswear was presented to Tim Hamilton, and for Accessory Design went to Justin Giunta for Subversive Jewelry. The Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Anna Sui. Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton was given this year's International Award. The ELeanor Lambert Award was given to GQ Creative Director Jim Moore. The Eugenia Sheppard Award was presented to Edward Nardoza for excellence in journalism. The night was a beautiful spectacle, with gorgeous clothes and people! Below are some of my favorite outfits from the event!
Taylor Lautner looked hot (as always) in Calvin Klein, Rachel Roy wore her own design while Roopal Patel wore Jason Wu, Kirsten Dunst ported Rodarte with Nicholas Kirkwood shoes, Daphne Guinness showed up in Proenza Schouler, Rachel Zoe wore Louis Vuitton, Molly Sims sported Dolce & Gabbana, Melissa George posed with and wore Nicole Miller, Heidi Klum attended the event with Michael Kors and wore his design, Diane Kruger wore Jason Wu, and Ashley Olsen wore a bold (probably vintage) number.

Let the Future Unfold
The Fall 09 collections for Blumarine and Balmain were my two favorites. They mixed glitter and rock 'n' roll with classic looks, and created trend-setting pieces. The shaped shoulder pads are all the rage now, as well as tight glittered skirts with loose tops, and dresses that come in crazy structures and shapes. Gaucho pants are also a big trend, and leather is back everyone - so get your pair of leather shorts or a leather jacket to spice up any outfit!

Splash of Color
Black Attack
As Blumarine, D&G, Louis Vuitton, Oscar de la Renta and Erdem show, along with countless other collections and designers, black is big for fall. Black looks great in shirts, pants, shoes, dresses, and can be mixed with color to create a jazzy look, or kept simple and classic. After flirty colors and patterns in summer, it is nice to revisit this timely color either in wild ways or straight hemlines.

Bursts of Color
Designers like Blumarine, Jil Sander, Marc Jacobs, and Oscar de la Renta (all pictured), incorporated bursts of color into their fall collections. Instead of only using drab colors that remind people of snowy winter days or cold fall mornings, these colorful items make dressing for fall fun and festive, and get people excited for the coming months. Worn either as a stand alone gown, a jacket with black tights and boots, a dreamy party dress with killer heels, or an origami-styled work dress like the designers depicted, color boosts one's mood and wardrobe! If a statement colored piece is not your style, try a bright headband, belt, sweater, shoe, pant, or any other single item (or add a few!) that can make any outfit pop!

Designers Go Green
Green is an "in" color for fall 09. Chanel and Louis Vuitton incorporated the color into their collections, from nail polish to skirts. Green is a color that looks good on everyone and comes in so many different shades allowing it to be worn during the day and night! If you don't think you can go environmentally green, definitely get in on this trend so you can feel a bit better about yourself!

Modern Accessories for Fall 09
Nicole Richie's jewelry line, House of Harlow, creates classic jewelry with a fun twist. This cocktail ring could easily be a cocktail holder (it's huge!), but is a great piece to throw on with any outfit, and with it on, there is no need for any other hand accessories!
The Nina Ricci boots are just... out of control. I love the glitter and shine and shape, and think they are an ultra-modern item, but I could never walk in them, and anyone actually sporting these would just look silly!
It is clear that with Chanel's plastic purse a woman has no secrets. The idea is unique and clean-cut, and it is an easy way to store certain items, but all of one's belongings are out in the open for the world to see!
